Specialty Shots Golf Instructions and Tips - Uphill, Downhill and
Side-hill Shots
What need
to be adjust
to your golf swing if the ball resting on a uphill
slope, downhill slope or side hill?
If the ball resting on an uphill
slope, simply play the ball more off the left foot, put your weight
more onto the right foot so your body leans back a bit, and swing up
the hill. Allow for the shot to move a little to the left of the
target line, which is the natural tendency of the ball flight for an
uphill shot.
If the ball is resting on a
downhill slope, everything is the opposite. Play the ball of the
right foot with more weight on the left foot so your body
leans forward a bit, and swing down the hill. The ball is now likely
to fly a bit right of the target line, so allow for this when
aiming.
If the ball is resting on the side
of a hill above your feet, simply move down the hill away from the
ball and swing more around your body like a baseball swing. Allow
for the ball to move left of the target line. If the ball is below
your feet, move down the hill a bit closer to the ball and swing the
club more upright over your head, allowing for the ball to move
right of the target line.
There are tow common themes to all
of these hill shots. The stance is always moved down the hill in
relation to the ball, and your body and swing are always
accommodating to the contour of the hill. It's kind of like
pretending the whole world just learned a certain way and your body
and swing went with it. Once you and the world are leaning together,
just take a normal swing.
