Springfield Royal Country Club - Thailand
Springfield Royal
Country Club is located in Cha-Am, two hours and
twenty minutes west of Bangkok, not far from the
royal seaside resort of Hua Hin. Designed by Jack
Nicklaus and opened in 1993, the course is a
demanding one, with undulating greens and plenty of
water hazards, and is also one of the best maintained in
Thailand. The golf club is ten miles from the
Springfield Beach Resort, with an opulent,
red-roofed clubhouse that occupies the high ground overlooking the course
and the Gulf of Thailand. Nearby is Phetchaburi, a
town known for its old temples. Above the town in
the Khao Wang hills sits the
summer palace and observatory of Phra Nakhon Khiri
built by King Mongkut, which is now a national
museum accessible by cable car.
Royal Hua Hin Golf Club - Thailand
Royal Hua Hin, opened in 1924, is Thailand's oldest
golf course, located in the center of the royal
seaside resort of Hua Hin, overlooking the Gulf of
Thailand. The course winds through the hills behind
the preserved Hua Hin railway station on the
Bangkok-Singapore line. Popularly known as "The
Railway," the course was designed by Scottish
railway engineer O.A. Robins for King Vajiravudh and
his golf partner, Queen Rhamphaibarni. The prayer
tree between the first and 10th tees is a novel but
much-welcomed feature. Just outside the town within
the Rama 6 Army Camp is Maruekkataiyawan, the teak
summer palace built for the king.
