Ullna Golf Club - Sweden
Ullna Golf Club is about an hour's drive outside of
Stockholm, carved through the birch trees and
wrapped around Lake Ullna. Founded in 1981, the
course was designed by Sven Tumba, Sweden's greatest
all-around sportsman, who played in four Olympics
for the Swedish national hockey team during the
1950s and '60s. The course was created as a
target-style design on the model of the American TPC
courses with spectator mounds for viewing during
tournaments (it has hosted events on both the men's
and women's European Tours). Lake Ullna comes into
play on many of the holes, starting with the island
green on the par-three third and running the length
of the 17th to a peninsula green at the finish. The
lake is used in the winter by the ice yacht club of
Stockholm as well as for skating, and across the
lake is a man-made hill built for skiing.
