Tucked
into a little corner north east of Johor Bahru is an
18-hole public course that is drawing golfers with
varied skills. This par-71 layout is not long albeit
presents quite an interesting challenge. The bunkers and
water hazards are strategically placed, while the greens
are laid with Tifdwarf and
fairways turf with Zoysia Marrella.
With
space at a premium, golfers may have to be aware of
parallel fairways along the course although the mature
trees lining the fairways go a long way to stop errant
shots. With dogleg sand humps in front that hide the
greens on several holes, the course is made to look
longer. The greens, fairly large, have only slight
undulations.
Two
of Daiman's toughest holes ate the 16th, measuring 416
meters, is the longest par-4 on the course. Your drive
must be long and accurate to avoid the bunker on the
fairway. A slight dogleg right, the green has bunkers
protecting it left and right. At 149 meters, the 17th
presents an interesting problem. From the tees you have
to look for your target as the left side of the green is
partially blocked by trees, water is also present in
front and to the right.
There
are no caddies available and buggies are mandatory at
Daiman 18. Despite being a public golf course, Daiman 18
has all the basic and usual facilities and amenities
such as F&B and locker rooms all under the new clubhouse
overlooking the 18th. Pekin Restaurant serves very good
meals at very reasonable prices.
