St
Andrews Old Golf Course, Scotland
Scotland golf course
St Andrews Old.
The
Old Course of St Andrews, where golf has been played
since 1552 and possibly earlier, is the most famous golf
course in the world and yet many of the famous golfers
who later sing its praises have been reluctant to admire
it at first sight.
The great Bobby Jones wrote that when
he first played at St Andrews he felt only a puzzled
dislike, but nine years later he said that if he had to
select.
one
course on which to play the match of his life it would
be St Andrews. The most famous hole is the 17th, the
"Road Hole", which has seen the downfall of many a
would-be champion, while the 13th has been called the
greatest single hole in golf. It takes time to
appreciate the subtleties of the Old Course, but a round
there is played in the company of the spirits of the
golfing immortals.
