Stewart Creek Golf Course - Canada

Stewart Creek Golf Course is near the old coal mining town of Canmore, Alberta, on the eastern slopes of the Rundle Range 15 minutes from Banff. The mines at Canmore date back to 1886, and several of the mine shafts are visible along the course, their entries refurbished to serve as rain shelters. Designed by Alberta architect Gary Browning, Stewart Creek is an exceptionally pristine layout, with staggered rows of pines, granite ledges, and the clear waters of Stewart Creek, framed by the peaks of the Three Sisters looming above. With over 50 miles of tunnels running under the course, the risk of fairways sinking or collapsing was a major concern. To reinforce the fairways, 120,000 square feet of geo-fabric mesh was used to line the most susceptible areas, the same type of material used for the bright orange fences at World Cup downhill ski races. The first hole kicks off with a spectacular 100-foot drop to the fairway.
