Arelauquen Golf and Country Club and Martindale Country Club, Argentina

Arelauquen Golf and Country Club - Argentina

Arelauquen Golf and Country Club is set in the mountain splendor of Patagonia, eight miles from Bariloche, surrounded by the Andes. The resort covers 1,400 acres, of which 1,000 are maintained as wilderness. The course, for which Argentine pro and Champions Tour player Vicente "Chino" Fernandez served as the design consultant, borders Gutierrez Lake and is crossed by Longochinoco Stream. There are views throughout the course of the peaks of Cerro Otto and Cerro Catedral, the home of the area's main ski resort. There is also a five-star, 23-room mountain lodge at the course, built of native stone and timber.

Martindale Country Club - Argentina

Martindale Country Club is located 35 miles outside of Buenos Aires in Pilar. The course was founded by John '1uan" Martin, an Argentinean of English descent, on the 1,OOO-acre estate and horse farm used for breeding polo ponies started by his father. Opened in 1989, the course was designed by local architects Diego Caprile and Marcos Capdepont, working with Houston-based Ken Dye. The mansion on the estate is now the clubhouse, while the course is routed through mature trees, with the brook on the property expanded to create a series of ponds within the centrifugal fairways. Martin was inspired to build the course by his father-in-law, the late Baron Marcel Bieh, who created Les Bordes on his hunting estate in France's Loire Valley. Martin met his future wife when he was sent to resolve a dispute between Martin, Sr., who had acquired patent rights to the ballpoint pen process, and the Baron, who put his name on the Bie pen.
