The Golf Club Redlands Mesa - Colorado, U.S.A.
The Golf Club at
Redlands Mesa is set in the rugged red sandstone
wonderland of southwestern Colorado near Grand
Junction. The course was molded with great care to
fold within the surrounding grandeur by its designer, Jim Engh. Redlands Mesa bows and bends
through jumbles of boulders, its coils of green
spread out 5,000 feet above sea level, with 350 feet
of elevation change throughout the course. From the
many elevated tees, there are magnificent views of
the purple faces of the Bookcliffs to the north and
the Grand Mesa, the world's highest flat-top
mountain, to the east. Just to the west of the course
is the Colorado National Monument, with its sheer
sandstone canyons in shades of vermilion and brown
and its forests of pinon trees and Utah junipers
inhabited by bighorn sheep.
River Valley Ranch - Colorado, U.S.A.
River Valley Ranch in
Carbondale, some 30 miles from Aspen, is one of the
best and most breathtaking public courses in
Colorado. Designed by Jay Morrish and opened in
1996, the Course plays at an altitude of 6,200 feet,
lying beneath the snow-crowned 7,953-foot Mount
Sopris in the Roaring Fork Valley. The course rolls
across open countryside that had previously been
cattle ranches dating back to the days of the
Homestead Act. Seven holes run along or across the
Crystal River, with large swirling greens split by
swords of sand and long views across the sagebrush
and pinon pines that veil the valley.
