WIKIUP GOLF COURSE (1963)

NORTH COAST REGION

Public - 9 hole - cost: $11 - $21

5001 Carriage lane, Santa Rosa, CA 95403

Tel: (707) 546-8787

Designed by Clark Glasson. This is a short course that plays through the Wikiup subdivision. The course is suited for beginners and seniors. It winds along Mark West Springs Creek. From within Santa Rosa: Off US 101, at the north end of Santa Rosa, take the River Road/Mark West Springs exit. Drive east. At the stoplight turn left (north) on Old Redwood Highway for a mile. Turn right on Wikiup Drive and make another right on Carriage Lane. Fun, but not spectacular, the par-4 second hole is the most challenging, as you can drive the green if you can carry about 220 yards across water. Don't try to play two balls though, as the owner will kick you off the course. Trust me.

WILCOX OAKS GOLF CLUB (1929)

SHASTA CASCADE REGION

Members only - 18 hole

Two Wilcox Golf Road, Red Bluff, GA 96080

Tel: (530) 527-7087

Designed by Ben Harmon (9 holes 1997). This is a tricky course, where knowing the layout will help your score. The front nine is fairly exposed open with lots of trees. On the back nine, there are only three holes that allow you to see the green from the tee. If you hit your ball into the trees lining the fairway, you might as well leave bread crumbs as you search for your ball - it may be the only chance you will have to find your way out. Reciprocal play with other members-only clubs is allowed. From within Red Bluff: Off I-5, take the Wilcox Golf Road exit west to the course.
