Designed by Robert Cupp, Steve Timm. The front nine
is mountainous - players will be hitting down to
fairways and up to greens. The back nine is more
level, with little room for error off the tee. Watch
out for the greens; many of them have false fronts
and are well guarded by traps. From downtown
Los Angeles (about 47 miles northwest to the
course): Take US 101 north to Highway 23 north. Exit
at Tierra Rejada Road. Turn right to the entrance of
the club, which is about one-quarter mile away, on
the left side. The driving range, 1st hole,
9th hole and 13th holes are all squeezed together.
This is preposterous layout for an upscale daily-fee
course.

Designed by Ted Robinson. Tijeras
Creek is the tale of two styles. The front is real
estate golf, winding through a development. The back
nine heads out along ridges and valleys for an
exhilarating finish. Walking is OK but
you're paying for the cart with your green fees. From Irvine (about 20 miles southeast to the
course): Take the San Diego Freeway (I-405) south to
I-5 south, exit onto Oso Parkway, and head east.
Turn left on Antonio Parkway and then left on
Tijeras Creek Road. Tijeras Creek is a nice
course, and the price is pretty reasonable for this
area. The pace of play was excellent. The pace was
so
good
that on one hole, where there was a
par with a big oak on the side of the green, we
played it twice. Greens and fairways are usually in
good shape. Due to the heat and dry conditions in
the summer, it would be wise to play early and bring
a lot of water.
