college courses, Stanford boasts many striking oaks,
as well as eucalyptus, with a creek often coming
into play, and large greens. Sufficiently long, it
is a stalwart test of golf. From San Francisco
(about 35 miles south to the course): Take I-280
south. Exit onto Alpine Road and head east. Turn
right on Junipero Serra Boulevard. Turn right on
West Campus Drive and follow it up the hill to the

Designed by Gary Player. This
popular 27-hole complex features three distinct
nines. The Canyon nine is the most scenic but the
most intimidating for the average player. The
Meadows and Ranch nines are equally entertaining,
yet less formidable. The yardage listed is for the
Ranch and Meadow nines. You can sign up on the
website for specials. Carts are included in and
mandatory. From San Diego (about 17 miles east to
the course): Go east on Highway 94. This turns into
a surface street, Highway 54. Turn right on Willow
Glen Drive and then again right
on Steele Canyon Road.
Turn left on Jamul Drive and follow
the signs.
