Designed by Gary Roger Baird. This is a modern but traditional design with Mt. Diablo providing a stunning backdrop. The course changes elevation and uses the natural terrain to create its challenge. You will encounter deep bunkers and water on six holes. Range balls, a bag tag and yardage book are included in your green fees. From Walnut Creek (about 22 miles northeast to the course): Take Highway 4 east. Exit at Hillcrest and make a right. Stay on Hillcrest and it will turn into Deer Valley. Follow it for seven miles until you reach Balflour. Turn left for one and one-half miles. The course is located on the corner of Country Club Drive. An excellent addition to East Bay public-access golf.

Designed by Gene Sarazen. The shadow of Shadow Mountain comes from the forest of palm trees that line the fairways. Although the fairways are narrow, the real challenge comes around the greens. An accurate short game is needed to navigate the small greens, which are well protected by bunkers. Reciprocal play with other members-only clubs is allowed. From downtown Los Angeles (about 120 miles east to the course): Take I-10 east, exit at Monterey, and turn right. Turn left on to Highway 111. Turn right on San Luis Rey. Go until it ends and turn left in to the club.
