Selma Valley Golf Course and Sepulveda Golf Complex, California

SELMA VALLEY GOLF COURSE (1958)

CENTRAL VALLEY REGION

Public - 18 hole - cost: $14 - $18

12389 East Rose Avenue, Selma, CA 93662

Tel: (559) 896-2424

Designed by Bob Baldock. With only one par 5, Selma Valley is not as short as the scorecard indicates. With plenty of trees lining the fairways and smallish greens, accuracy is a must. Water comes into play on four holes. From Fresno (about 20 miles southeast to the course): Take Highway 99 south, exit at Floral Avenue, and head east. Turn right to head south at the dead-end at Bethel. Turn left to go east on Rose Avenue. The course is on the right.

SEPULVEDA GOLF COMPLEX (1953)

LOS ANGELES REGION

Public: 36 hole - cost: $13 - $29

16821 Burbank Boulevard, Encino, CA 91436

Tel: (818) 986-4560

Designed by William P. Bell. Sepulveda has two 18-hole courses, the Encino and the Balboa. If you are looking for a nice walk in the park, pick the longer but more forgiving Encino Course. For players seeking more excitement, try the Balboa Course. With tighter fairways and smaller greens, this course forces you to make better shots. The yardage listed is for the Encino Course. From downtown Los Angeles (about 19 miles northwest to the course): Take US 101 north, exit at Havenhurst, and take a right. Then take a left on Burbank Boulevard to the course. The biggest elevation change on the Encino course is from the 10th green to the snack bar near the 11th tee. Still, half the golfers find the need to ride a cart.
