San Luis Rey Downs is a scenic, old-school course
with many trees. Accuracy isn't critical, but it
will definitely help. What is critical is making par
or better on the five par 5s, because you will need
that cushion when playing the five long par 3s. San
Luis Rey Downs has 26 rooms, swimming and tennis.
Carts are required on weekends and included in the
green fees. Gary McCord holds the course record.
From San Diego (about 45 miles north to the course):
Head north on I-15 and then west on Highway 76. In
Bonsall, turn left on Camino del Rey. Follow Camino
del Rey to Golf Club Drive and turn left. This is a
good choice for fun golf for those who want to give
their wallet a break from the many high-end resort
courses in the area.
