Designed by William F. Bell, Schmidt
&
Curley. This is an attractive resort
course, set in a valley and surrounded by homes.
Rancho Bernardo is extremely playable with generous
fairways. It is dotted with trees and has an
occasional lateral water hazard. This is a
traditional layout without gimmicks and is
conveniently located next to the hotel. Rancho
Bernardo Inn is part of a 287-room resort, with a
variety of play-and-stay packages. The course is the
only one in San Diego that has hosted both PGA and
LPG A events. Carts are included in the green fees.
From San Diego (about 20 miles north to the
course): Take
I-15
north to Rancho Bernardo. Take the
Rancho Bernardo Road exit east. Turn left on
Bernardo Oaks Drive to the course.

Pretty, fun, and well conditioned. If you're lucky, an
occasional hawk may buzz past.

Designed by Robert Dean Putman. The West Course is
the longer and tougher of the two courses. On the
shorter East Course, the front nine is tighter,
while the back nine opens up. Both of these scenic
courses share other similarities. The greens are
large, so hitting them in regulation does not
guarantee par. A river comes into play three times
on the West Course and five times on the East. Most
of the fairways are well protected by a variety of
trees. Trade accuracy for distance. The West Course
yardage is listed. From Monterey (about
ten miles south to the course): Go south on Highway
1. Turn left on Carmel Valley Road. The club is one
mile east, on the right. Don't choose your course
solely by the yardage. We feel the East Course is
just as enjoyable as the West Course.
