Designed by William F. Bell. The greens are the
story at Rancho San Joaquin. If you are going to
conquer this relatively short course, it will mean
putting well on its large, undulating greens. Expect
slow play, especially on weekends. From within
Irvine: Off the San Diego Freeway (I-405), exit at
Culver and head west. Turn right on Ethel Coplen Way
to the course.
Rancho San Joaquin is definitely worth a round.

Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr.
Inland from Santa Barbara on the site of the an old
stagecoach trail, this beautifully rustic setting
affords stunning views of the Santa Ynez River
Valley. The front nine is situated on a flat plains,
while the back nine plays on and around a ridge. Cart and range balls are included in your green
fees. From downtown Los Angeles (about 105 miles
northwest to the course): Take US 101 north to
Santa Barbara and take the State Street/San Marcos
Pass exit. Cross State Street and turn toward the
mountains on San Marcos Pass, Highway 154. The
course is 13 miles on the right. Psychologically,
the tees fill you with confidence, as many of the
fairways are wide and there are not many hazards.
However, don't be fooled. If you don't have a decent
short game, it will be reflected in your score. If
you are carrying your own bag, the back nine is a
hike, not a walk.
