PITTSBURG'S DELTA VIEW GOLF COURSE
(1947)
BAY AREA REGION
Municipal:
18 hole - cost: $15 -
$30
2242 Golf Club Road, Pittsburg, CA 94565
Tel:
(925) 439-4040
Designed by Alister Mackenzie (front), Robert
Muir Graves (back). This course can get windy, which
together with some dramatic elevations changes,
makes par more elusive than you would imagine.
Pittsburg is an extremely popular course with the
locals, so a four-hour round in the afternoon is not
realistic. From Martinez (about 13 miles east to the
course): Take Highway 4 east. Exit on Bailey Road
and go south. Turn left on Leland. Turn right on
Golf Club Road after about one and one-half miles.
PLANTATION GOLF CLUB, THE
(1996)
DESERT REGION
Members only - 18 hole
50994 Monroe Street Indio, CA 92253
Tel:
(760) 775-3688
Designed by Fred Couples, Brian Curley.
Plantation features some of the best bunkering in
many years. Located at an old orchard, the flat
layout appears more mature than its actual age. From
downtown Los Angeles (about 130 miles east to the
course): Take I-10 east toward Palm Springs. Take
the Monroe Street exit. Turn right on Monroe Street.
The main entrance is located between 50th and 52nd
Avenues. This is an un-pretentious, but golf-only,
men-only facility, and quietly one of the Desert's
best courses.
