PASO ROBLES GOLF CLUB
(1960)
CENTRAL COAST REGION
Public
-
18
hole - cost: $10 - $22
1600 Country Club Drive, Paso Robles, CA 93446
Tel:
(805) 238-4722
Designed by Bert Stamps. Save your driver for
the back nine; the front side requires a surgeon's
touch, with an abundance of water, and homes lining
both sides of the fairways. On the back nine, the
course becomes a little less severe - you lose the
homes, but still have plenty of chances to hit it in
the drink.
From San Luis Obispo (about 35 miles north to the
course): Travel north on US 101 and exit at Spring
Street. Turn right at the light on Niblick Road.
After about one and one-half miles, turn right on
Country Club Drive. Cheap, but uninspiring. Formerly
a country club, but now in muni shape. Play Hunter
Ranch if you want great conditioning or the Links
Course of Paso Robles if you need a good deal.
PAUMA VALLEY COUNTRY CLUB
(1961)
SAN DIEGO REGION
Members only - 18 hole
15835 Pauma Valley Drive, Pauma Valley, CA 92061
Tel: (760) 742-1230
Designed by Robert Trent Jones
Sr. Long a fixture of America's top 100 courses by
the leading golf publications, the layout boasts
large greens and tons of length. But what most
people remember about Pauma Valley are the bunkers.
You'll have plenty of opportunity to use your
56-degree, 60-degree, 85-degree wedges. This course
remains one of the premier layouts in Southern
California. From San Diego (about 55 miles north to
the course): Take I-15 north to Highway 76 and drive
east for 14 miles. Pay attention! On the left is the
post office and a market. The club entrance is
directly across the street. It is very easy to drive
right by.
