Designed by William P. Bell, Max Behr, Ken
Killian. Oakmont is a perennial favorite of the
LPGA. The course is flat but interesting, with
narrow trees guarding hitting areas and deceptive,
well-maintained putting surfaces. From downtown Los
Angeles (about 11 miles north to the course): Take
the Glendale Freeway (Highway 2) north, exit at
Mountain Street and turn left. Go downhill and turn
right on Verdugo. Bear to the left onto Canada. Turn
left on Country Club Drive and go uphill to the
club.

Designed by Ted Robinson. On the West Course, if
you are hitting the ball remotely straight, expect
to have a
good
time. Oakmont West is a
well-conditioned, pleasant golf course with ample
fairways and greens. However, if straight is not in
your game plan, you will contend with native oaks,
lakes. creeks, streams, and plenty of homes. The
executive East Course is a demanding layout, with
tough par 3s and short, tricky par 4s. The yardage
listed is for the West Course. From within Santa
Rosa: Take Highway 12 east approximately five miles
toward Sonoma. Turn right on Oakmont
Drive. where there is a stoplight.
The course is on the left.
The
West Course is fun, and the East Course may be one
of the best executive courses in the state. These
courses are part of a retirement community, so
mid-mornings can play slow, but during the afternoon
nap time, things seem to speed up.
