Designed by Sam Whiting. For the inaccurate driver, Nevada County Country Club is paradise. With plenty of parallel fairways, if you can't hit your own fairway, you still have a good chance of landing on the short grass. The course creates a challenge with small greens that feature subtle breaks, favoring the player with course knowledge. Nonmembers can play after 2 p.m. on weekdays and anytime on weekends. From within Grass Valley: Off Highway 49, exit at Idaho Maryland and go west. Turn right on East Main Street and head up the hill. The course is on the left.

Designed by unknown. Expect to pitch and putt. Of course if you miss the green, expect to chip and putt. From west Los Angeles (about 17 miles south to the course): Take the San Diego Freeway (I-405) south, exit at Hawthorne Boulevard and turn right. Make a left on Sepulveda and then a right on Maple Avenue.
