Designed by Sandy Tatum, Jim Summers. This is a rolling, narrow, tree-lined course with dramatic greens and eye-pleasing views. The course, by today's standards, is short in length, but that doesn't mean it's a pushover. Mount Shasta is designed to make players think, giving them several options for each shot. There are 65 rooms and a spa at the resort. Play-and-stay packages are available. From Redding (about 60 miles north to the course): Drive north on I-5. Take the Mount Shasta Central exit and turn left over the freeway. Make a left at the stop sign (Old Stage Road). Follow the signs for two miles to the course. Bring a few extra balls. It's a drive, but for the price you pay for golf and a night at the chalet, you probably couldn't get on the putting green of some highend Bay Area courses.

Designed by Jack Fleming. This is a short course set in the middle of the the Napa County Fairgrounds. From Napa (about 30 miles north to the course): Take Highway 29 to Calistoga. Turn right at Lincoln Avenue. Turn left on Stephenson, and then left again on Grant Street.
