Designed by Dick Fry. This simple, playable course is flat, with small greens, and is, as its name suggests, set in a meadow in the mountains, lined with pine trees. Meadowmont offers all-day rates of $21 on weekdays and $27 on weekends. From Stockton (about 75 miles northeast to the course): Take Highway 4 east to Arnold. The course is on the left.

Designed by Jack Fleming. This is a quiet resort course that incorporates the natural terrain into its layout. Meadowood Resort is peaceful, but does provide some challenge with tree-lined fairways and undulating greens. There are four par 4s, five par 3s, and water on one hole. Reciprocal play with other members-only clubs is allowed. Meadowood is a full resort and spa with 85 cottages and suites. From Napa (about 20 miles north to the course): Drive north on Highway 29. Turn right on Pope Street and then left on the Silverado Trail. Soon after, go right onto Howell Mountain Road, to the course.
