Lone Tree Golf Course and Lonesome Dove Golf Course, California

LONE TREE GOLF COURSE (1934)

BAY AREA REGION

Public - 18 hole - cost: $15 - $33

4800 Golf Course Road, Antioch, CA 94509

Tel: (925) 706-4220

Designed by Bob Baldock, John Harbottle. Hang on there, partner; Lone Tree is just the name of the course. Chances are if you miss with your driver, you will hit several trees. Because of an abundance of slope, club selection can be tricky. The greens run average to small in size. Despite the hills, this layout is extremely walk-able because of good placement of tees and greens. From Walnut Creek (about 20 miles northeast to the course): Go north on I-680. Take Highway 242 east to Highway 4 and drive east. Exit on Lone Tree Way and turn right. Turn right on Golf Course Road.  For the price, it's well maintained and a good choice if you are in the area.

LONESOME DOVE GOLF COURSE (1933)

CENTRAL VALLEY REGION

Public r 9 hole - cost: $10 - $

41605 Sutter Avenue, Coalinga, CA 93210

Tel: (559) 935-3578

Designed by Bob Baldock (remodel). This is a tight driving course with plenty of trees and outof-bounds surrounding the fairways. The terrain is rolling and the greens are undulating. Lonesome Dove was previously named Polvadero. From within Coalinga: Off I-5, take the Jayne Avenue exit and head west to Sutter Avenue. Turn left to the course.
