The front nine is fairly open, with plenty of water
in the form of lakes and streams. The back nine is a
mountain course with many trees and drop-offs that
will come into play for the golfer who can't hit it
straight. You will find some excellent views of the
surrounding area along the way. From downtown Los
Angeles (about 90 miles northeast to the course): Go
I-10 east to I-215 north and exit onto Highway 30
(Mountain Resorts). Go to Highway 18 (Waterman
Avenue) and turn left. Go through Rimforest to Blue
Jay and bear left. At the stop sign, turn left. Go
to Grass Valley Road and bear right, staying on
Grass Valley Road. Turn left on Golf Course Road.

Designed by William Locke, Bob Putman. This
hilly course is sporty and fun, especially when it
is in good condition. Notable is the long downhill
par 6 finishing hole that is reachable in three
shots. There is also a Par 3 nine-hole course. From
within Oakland: Off I-880 south, exit at 98th Avenue
and head east. Turn left at Golf Links Road. Bear
right at the fork. Lake Chabot has a lot of
personality, a friendly disposition, and a price
most people can afford. The course does come with
the usual muni drawbacks, but it is well worth the
price.
