Iron-Wood probably should be named Iron-Iron, since
there are not many occasions to use a wood. Even if
the course were long enough to be called Iron-Wood,
nobody uses real woods anymore. On second thought,
maybe it should be called Iron-Wood, because the
course is tree-lined, with two lakes. From downtown
Los Angeles (about 16 miles southeast to the
course): Take I-5 south to I-605 south. Exit Alondra
and go straight. It turns into Piuma and dead-ends
at the course.

There are two scenic courses, the North and South.
The North Course plays among the homes and measures
a little more than 5,700 yards. The South is long
(7,200 yards) and driver friendly, with lots of
water, sand, rolling terrain, and flat greens. The
yardage listed is for the South Course.
From downtown Los Angeles (about 120 miles east to the
course): Take I-10 east, exit at Monterey and turn
right. Cross Highway 111, and the road turns into
Highway 74. Turn left on Haystack and right on
Portola. The entrance is on the left.
