Designed by Ted Robinson. This immaculate layout is set in a flat valley. Fairbanks Ranch features lots of water, bunkering, and terraced putting surfaces, which are framed by mounds and palm trees. It can be a formidable test of golf, especially when the wind picks up in the afternoon. From San Diego (about 20 miles north to the course): Take I-5 north, exit at Del Mar Heights Road, turn right, and head east. Turn left on EI Camino Real and right on San Dieguito Road. Go about one and one-half miles, and the club is on the left. Given the flat terrain, this was a much more engaging golf course than I would have imagined -one of Ted Robinson's best.
