Designed by Steve Halsey. The newer of Modesto's
two 18-hole courses, Creekside features some
artistic green-side bunkering, as well as some very
testing, tiered putting surfaces. The two holes that
play creekside are the most engaging. From within
Modesto: Off Highway 99, take Highway 132 east. It
turns into Yosemite Boulevard. About a mile and
one-half past Mitchell, turn left on Lincoln Avenue
to the course.

1295 Cresta Road, Corona, CA 92879

Designed by Randolph Scott. Slicers and lefties
who duck-hook beware, the fairways are rolling and
ample, but most of the out-of-bounds runs along the
right side of the course. You will find over 300
feet in elevation changes. The course is designed
for every player with six relatively easy holes, six
fun holes, and six holes that are world-class tough.
One of America's 500 oldest courses, Cresta Verde
Golf Club was originally a private club designed in
1927 by the famous actor Randolph Scott and owned by
Henry Ford. Its first member? Clark Gable. The
current owner, Jay Miller, can be seen on the course
five to six days a week. On holidays, you may find
him riding in a cart, giving out free refreshments
and golf tips. From Riverside (about 1 2 miles
southwest to the course): Take Highway 91 west to
I-15 north. Exit at Hidden Valley Parkway and head
east. Go one mile and turn right on Parkridge. Then
go another mile to turn left on Cresta Road. Turn
left into the club. Somebody is finally getting it
right. An owner who can be seen on the course, music
around the clubhouse and driving range, and a junior
program that allows kids to play for $1 after 12
p.m., now that's entertainment.
