BURLINGAME COUNTRY CLUB (1893)

BAY AREA REGION

Members only: 18 hole

80 New Place Road, Hillsborough, CA 94010

Tel: (650) 342-0750

Designed by Mr. McDonald, Robert Trent Jones Sr (redesign). This old, exclusive, private course receives little play and features large eucalyptus trees and smallish greens. The course opened in 1893 and had only three holes. From San Francisco (about 18 miles south to the course): Go south on US 101, exit at Burlingame Avenue and turn right. Turn left on EI Camino Rea

BUTTE CREEK COUNTRY CLUB (1965)

SHASTA CASCADE REGION

Members only - 18 hole

175 Estates Drive, Chico, CA 95928

Tel: (530) 343-8292

Designed by Bob Baldock. Some of Butte Creek's tributaries run through the property and affect five holes. The layout is a flat but scenic course, with plenty of mature trees and undulating, yet puttable, greens. The course offers a fair test of your skills, but does not torture members with higher handicaps. Reciprocal play with other members-only clubs is allowed. From Sacramento (about 85 miles north to the course): Take Highway 99 north. After the Welcome to Chico sign, take a left at Estates Drive. If you go over Butte Creek on Highway 99, you've gone too far.
