Two high-desert courses, 10Gated 20 minutes
southwest of Reno in the foothills, are equally
challenging. The Legend Course is open to the public
and is more traditionally shaped with extensive
bunkering. The private Challenge Course is more of a
throwback to Scottish design, with pot bunkers, and
it stretches more than 7,500 yards. The yardage is
listed is for the Legends Course. From within Reno:
Off I-80, take US 395 south, exit on Damonte Ranch
Road and turn right. This turns into ArrowCreek
Parkway. Stay to the left at the fork. The gates to
the course are on the left. This 36-hole complex has
it all. The Palmer-designed public access course is
traditional and very demanding. On the private side
I was pleasantly surprised with the quirky
Scottish-inspired Harbottle design.

Designed by Clark Glasson. This is a
parkland-style course set in the desert. The
fairways are level and are surrounded by mature
trees and rough. The greens are small, quick, and
sloping. From downtown Los Angeles (about 65 miles
east to the course): Take I-10 east, to I-215. Go
north to Highway 30 and go east to Waterman. Exit at
Waterman and turn left (north). Turn right on
Marshall and then left into the parking lot.
