ANTELOPE VALLEY COUNTRY CLUB (1953)

DESERT REGION

Members only - 18 hole

39800 Country Club Drive, Palmdale, CA 93551

Tel: (661) 947-3400

Designed by William P. Bell. Sand, water, trees, and wind will keep you on your toes at Antelope. The fairways are lined with trees, and the greens are well guarded by bunkers, but beware of the rough. Missing the fairways can be a painful experience, literally. Originally cut out of a forest of Joshua trees (part of the cactus family), the course still has many of these prickly trees. Guests are restricted on weekends and holidays until noon. From within Palmdale: Off Highway 14 take the Rancho Vista Boulevard/Avenue P exit. Head east only about a quarter mile to Country Club Drive. Turn left to the club.

ANTHEM COUNTRY CLUB (1999)

DESERT REGION

Members only: 18 hole

One Anthem Club Drive, Henderson, NV 89012

Tel: (702) 914-7888

Designed by Hale Irwin, Keith Foster. Anthem is generous from tee to fairway. The challenge on this desert course plays out fairway to green. Placing the ball in proper position on these large, undulating greens is the difference between birdie and bogey. Although you can hit a variety of shots into the greens, there are plenty of traps and water on 1 2 holes to make you think twice about running the ball up. Keep in mind, most greens break toward the Las Vegas strip, which you can see throughout your round. Reciprocal play with other members-only clubs is allowed. From the Las Vegas Airport (about 11 miles southeast to the course): Take I-215 east. Exit at Eastern Avenue and drive south. Past Saint Rose Parkway, the road will split. Take Anthem Parkway. This will lead to the security gate.
