ANGEL PARK GOLF CLUB (1989)

DESERT REGION

Muncipal 48 hole: cost: $75 - $145

100 South Rampart Boulevard, Las Vegas, NV 89145

Tel: (888) 446-5358

Designed by Arnold Palmer. You will find the Mountain Course and the Palm Course set at 2,500 feet above sea level. When it isn't windy, both courses can be very pleasant to play. Both are desertstyle courses with subtle mounding, a few trees, some water, and generous landing areas. You will also find Cloud 9 at Angel Park. Cloud 9 is a 12-hole, lighted, par-3 course featuring famous par 3s from around the world. Angel Park also has an 18-hole putting course. The yardage listed is for the Mountain Course. Carts are mandatory and included in the green fees. From the Las Vegas Airport (about 15 miles northwest to the course): Take I-15 to US 95 north. Take Summerlin Parkway, Exit 81A, and merge onto East Summerlin Parkway. Take the Rampart Boulevard exit and stay left. Turn left on to Rampart Boulevard. This is a reasonably priced (for Vegas) alternative to the other local courses.

ANGELES NATIONAL GOLF CLUB (2004)

LOS ANGELES REGION

Public - 18 hole: cost: $30 - $98

9401 Foothill Blvd. , Sunland, CA 91040

Tel: (818) 352-7139

Designed by Jack Nicklaus. This is an attractive southwestern desert-style course with open, contoured fairways, well-placed bunkers, and abundant-size greens. Keeping it on the fairways may not be difficult, but correct placement on the fairways is imperative. Why? Because proper placement on the greens is your only shot at obtaining par. Good luck. For the rabid golfer looking for an edge, their website offers an excellent shot-by-shot description of each hole. Print it out, bring it with you, and do exactly what it says. How much simpler can it get? From Los Angeles (about 25 miles to the course): Take I-5 north to CA - 2 North toward Glendale. Merge on to I-210 west toward San Fernando. Take Sun land Blvd. exit toward Sunland. Make a right on Fenwick St. and a left on Foothill Blvd. for one mile. The course will be on the right.
