How to use this directory
There are three categories. In the first categories are the golf courses rankings such as rankings of the Top 100 Courses, the 20 Most Difficult Courses, the Top 10 Heathland, Top 10 Parkland and Top 10 links Courses in Britain and Ireland. In the second categories are the star ratings for all golf courses, rated from five star to one star as follows:
***** Exceptional. The best.
**** Excellent. An outstanding day’s golf.
*** Very good.
** Good, but not great.
* Standard. Nothing special.

The third category is the information about the particular golf course. Here you will find all the information you need to organize a game in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. The division of courses in Scotland and Wales has been chosen for simplicity rather than to adhere to the new county boundaries. A review of Golf World’s favorite course in the area appears at the beginning of each county listing (with the exceptions of Tyne & Wear and East Yorkshire).
The information listed is accurate at the time of written. The bar and catering hours given are expected opening times during the summer. In many cases, bar and catering hours are likely to be shorter during the winter due to the early close of play.
There are four possible green-fee prices: for weekday round/day and weekend round/day. Where there is no price next to an entry, it means that price is not available at the club.
